ISSUE
The purpose of the project was the 
final design update for the construction of:
- sewer pipeline network for communities of Liti and Melisochori
- force main and gravity sewer pipelines and pumping stations for transporting the collected municipal wastewater of the aforementioned communities to the Municipality’s Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP), located 2.5km northeast of Community of Liti
SOLUTION
The aforementioned communities were served by septic tanks. The produced wastewater was discharged untreated in the broader region resulting in the degradation of the natural environment and the quality of life for local residents.
The table below shows the total peak population of all communities, for each design phase.

The design of the project was pursuant to the Greek Presidential Decree 696/74. The design of the pipelines and the pumping stations was based on a 40-year horizon, while the selection of the electrical and mechanical equipment was based on a 20-year horizon. Specifically, the project included:
- internal gravity sewer network for communities of Liti (total length of 9.900m and pipeline diameters of 200mm, 315mm and 400mm) and Melisochori (total length of 14.390m and pipeline diameters from 200mm to 250mm)
- external gravity sewer network (total length of 5.310m and pipeline diameters of 315mm and 500mm) and force main pipeline network (total length of 310m and pipeline diameters of 200mm); one (1) pumping station was used for pumping the wastewater
BENEFIT
The design of the aforementioned project solved the sewer network problem for communities of Liti and Melisochori.
