Project Summary

Wastewater Management
FINAL DESIGN OF WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT (WWTP) FOR MUNICIPALITY OF ELLOMENOS LEYKADA PREFECTURE

Client: Municipality of Ellomenos - GIGERTON SA
Year: 2007

ISSUE
The purpose of the project was the final design of the new WWTP of Municipality of Ellomenos, for a 40 year period with winter served population of 4.250 residents and summer served population of 19.950 residents.

SOLUTION
The WWTP was situated in the place “Skoupidia”, southwest of community of Rachi covering an area of 1 hectare. The wastewater flows into the treatment plant through two force main pipelines with diameters of 500mm and 125mm.

The WWTP of Municipality of Ellomenos designed to serve almost 20.000 equivalent residents or 403m³/d of wastewater. The design of the plant was based on the following data:

Parameter
Measurement Unit   Winter Summer

Population

persons 4.250 19.950
Average Flow m3/d 2.163 7.058
Peak Flow m3/h 57,13 403,02

The treatment of incoming untreated wastewater was designed using the activated sludge process with extended aeration modification, and includes the following modules and subsystems:

Additional infrastructure includes the internal roadway network and parking lots, water supply network, fire extinguish network, industrial water – irrigation network, exterior lighting system, telephone network, sewer network, installation of electricity supply and distribution, etc.

The treated effluent wastewater is discharged initially through an underground pipeline from the facility’s exit manhole to the coastline area of “Kalamaki”, between areas of Alamanato and Mavro Nero, from where it continues through a submarine pipeline for 500m far from the coastline.

BENEFIT
The design of the project solved the problem of wastewater management for the Municipality of Ellomenos.
