SEWERAGE DESIGN FOR MUNICIPAL DISTRICT OF N.MARMARAS, CHALKIDIKI PREFECTURE - VACUUM SEWER NETWORKS
Client: ERGODOMI ATEVE
Year: 2006
ISSUEThe purpose of the project was the
final design of the internal sewer networks of community of Paradeisos, which administratively belongs to the Municipal District of N.Marmaras of Municipality of Sithonia, and is situated west of Sithonian peninsula, east of Toronaios bay. The project submitted with the design-built procedure for the selection of the contractor.
SOLUTIONThe aforementioned community was served by septic tanks. The produced wastewater was discharged untreated in the broader region resulting in the degradation of the natural environment and the quality of life for local residents.
The table below shows the total peak population of all communities, for each design phase.
Peak Population of Served Communities |
Community | Population 2001 | Projected Population in 2005 | Projected Population in 20 years | Projected Population in 40 years |
Paradeisos | 425 | 1.170 | 610 | 1.600 |
TOTAL | 425 | 1.170 | 610 | 1.600 |
The design of the project was pursuant to the Greek Presidential Decree 696/74. The design of the pipelines and the pumping stations was based on a 40-year horizon, while the selection of the electrical and mechanical equipment was based on a 20-year horizon. Specifically, the project included:
- internal vacuum sewer network of community of Paradeisos (with total length of 9.050m and pipeline diameters from 90mm to 160mm)
- pumping station – vacuum station
Wastewater is collected in the central pumping station A, which is constructed within the community of Paradeisos. From there and through the existing pipeline network the wastewater flows into the Waste Water Treatment Plant of N.Marmaras.
BENEFIT
The design of the aforementioned works solved the problem of wastewater management of Community of Paradeisos of Municipal District of N.Marmaras.
