SEWERAGE DESIGN FOR MUNICIPALITY OF KAPETAN MITROUSIS, SERRES PREFECTURE

ISSUE
The purpose of the project was the
final design of the internal sewer pipeline network for Municipal Districts of Mitrousis (Ano and Kato) as well as the final design of the external force main sewer pipelines and pumping stations for transporting the collected wastewater to Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) of Serres, located 4.5km from Community of K.Mitrousis.
SOLUTION
The aforementioned communities were served by septic tanks. The produced wastewater was discharged untreated in the broader region resulting in the degradation of the natural environment and the quality of life for local residents.

The design of the project was pursuant to the Greek Presidential Decree 696/74. The design of the pipelines and the pumping stations was based on a 40-year horizon, while the selection of the electrical and mechanical equipment was based on a 20-year horizon. Specifically, the project included:
- internal gravity sewer network of Municipal District of Mitrousis (total length of 37.000m and pipeline diameters from 200mm to 315mm); nine (9) pumping stations and force main pipelines with length of 3.300m and diameters from 75mm to 280mm were used for pumping the wastewater
- external force main pipeline network (total length: 11.000m, and pipeline diameter of 250mm); two (2) pumping stations were used for pumping the wastewater

The design of the project solved the problem of wastewater management for Municipal District of Mitrousis of Municipality of Kapetan Mitrousis.
