ISSUE
The purpose of the project was the completion of the stormwater sewerage final design for the community of Saranta in the Municipality of Iraklitsa, aiming in adequate dimensioning of flood protection works – main pipelines – stormwater sewerage in the Community of Saranta.

SOLUTION
The community of Saranta is not served by a stormwater sewerage network. Taking into account that nine (9) streams pass through the community the imminent risk of flooding is evident.

The design of the project was prepared in accordance with the Greek Presidential Decree 696/74. More specifically, the project included the construction of the following:

• main stormwater reinforced concrete pipelines, with a total length of 1.700m and floating sections
• widening and dredging works of the perimetric ditch
• secondary drainage pipelines for the low points between the coastal road and the community of Saranta
• collection grids for the effective collection of stormwater and its drainage to the pipeline
• 23 shafts                                                                                     Community of Saranta
                                                                     

Specifically for the area of Megalo Rema, where a potential heavy flood could not be received by the designed stormwater pipeline, the construction of an artificial lake was proposed, along with the construction of a dam 25m in height, 400m in length and volume of 400.000m3.

BENEFIT
The design of the project resolved issues of stormwater management within the community of Saranta in the Municipality of N. Iraklitsa.
