ISSUE
The purpose of the project was the environmental licensing of existing and new irrigation projects in Paramithias valley within Thesprotia Prefecture.

ΎδρευσηThe area is located in the southern part of Epirus in Paramithia valley and is bounded north by the Municipality of Paramithia south by Gliki community, east by mountains Paramithia and west by mountains Margaritiou.
The irrigated area is estimated to 36,000 hectares. The design of the irrigation project area was divided into eight zones, of which 5 of them – 1.850 hectares – irrigation projects have already been built, including the following:

The area accommodating the existing projects does not require for drainage means due to the dense water resources network.
The planned projects include the following:

The operation of the irrigation project aimed at exploiting the agricultural plains of Paramithia.
In the accounted study the exact locations of the construction works were identified while the current situation was analyzed, investigating the state of the natural and human environment. At the same time significant information was offered with respect to the feasibility of the works along with their analytical description.
Finally, the extent and size of the caused environmental annoyance from the construction and operation of the works was described, while appropriate methods to treat environmental impacts during construction and operation phase were provided.

BENEFIT
The study was submitted to the department responsible for environmental licensing of the proposed works contributing to the resolution of the irrigation problem in Paramithia valley, Thesprotia Prefecture.
