ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT AND CORRECTIONAL MEASURES STUDY REGARDING THE CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION OF THE PROJECT “FLOOD-PREVENTION - DRAINAGE AND RURAL ROAD WORKS EAST OF VISTONIDAS LAKE”, DISTRICT OF EAST MACEDONIA-THRACE

ISSUE
The purpose of the project was the approval of Environmental Terms for the construction of the required flood protection - drainage and rural roads works east of Lake Vistonida, in order to establish flood protection for the region in relation to the protection of lakeside areas,  adequate sewerage - drainage of agricultural lands contained within the boundaries of the area and adequate road service within those areas with the provision of rural roads network, properly connected to the existing community and rural roads.

ΎδρευσηThe proposed works included the following:

  1. of rivers Kompsatos (Iasmos), Travos (Aspropotamos) and part of the river Kosinthos (Xanthi)
  2. of torrents Amaxades (western and eastern sector), Pistos, Asomaton and other smaller watercourses in the area east of Lake Vistonidas.

In the above arrangement works riverbed excavation, filling, protective embankments, slope protection arrangements and gabions were included.

In the accounted study the exact locations of the construction works were identified while the current situation was analyzed, investigating of the state of the natural and human environment. At the same time significant information was offered with respect to the feasibility of the works along with their analytical description.
 
Finally, the extent and size of the caused environmental annoyance from the construction and operation of the works was described, while appropriate methods to treat environmental impacts during construction and operation phase were provided.

BENEFIT
The study was submitted to the department responsible for environmental licensing of the proposed works.
