CONSULTANCY SERVICES FOR THE LAND RECLAMATION PROJECTS FUNDED BY THE THIRD SUPPORT COMMUNITY FRAME WORK OF THE MINISTRY OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT. COMPLEMENTARY ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT STUDIES FOR THE PROJECT: DOXA DAM AND FENEOS IRRIGATION WORKS, KORINTHIA PREFECTURE"

ISSUE

The purpose of the study was the renewal of the Environmental Terms for the construction of the water dam Doxa and the irrigation network in Feneos, Prefecture of Corinthia.

SOLUTION

The existed works included:                                                             View of the Doxas dam

• Earth dam of Doxa with a capacity of 5.500.000m3
• Drilling of thirteen (13) boreholes
• Land redistribution in the communities of Mosia and Mesino of total surface area of 3.500 hectares

The required works for environmental approval works included:

• Irrigation works:

- Design of irrigation network pipes
- Construction of reservoirs, chambers for washouts, pressure relief valves and water hammer arresters, etc                                                                                                                               
- Access works for permanent pipes                                                                                                  
• Drainage works:
- The proposed collection pipe 1T                       
- The existed collection pipes 2T, 5T and 6T
- Development of a ditch system
• Flood protection works which include:
- Arrangement of torrents Doxas and Olvios
- The natural sinks
- Creation of a permanent lake in the southern region of the sinks with a surface of 605 hectares
- Connection of the lake with the sink of Mati
- Land redistribution in the communities of Mati, Panorama, Ancient Feneos, Feneos and Stenos of a total surface area of 9.850 hectares
• Construction of rural roadway network

Additionally, the study provided the following information:

• Clarification between existing and future construction works
• Planned works for the arrangements of the torrents Doxas and Olvios
• Clarification regarding the water supply independence of the irrigation networks, estimation about the water demands and the potential changes in the exploitation plan of the water supplies
• Calculation of the ecological water flow of the torrent Doxas
• Calculation of the average water flow of the existing wells and water springs of Sivista and estimations about the flow of the planned wells
• The use of the springs Likouria and Mati and the environmental impact on them from the implementation of the project

BENEFIT

This project was submitted to the environmental public authority for the approval of Environmental Terms. The project was constructed in light of the integrated water resources management in the region.
