ISSUE
The purpose of this project was the final design of:

1. the water supply and distribution networks of the communities Nigrita and Terpni in the Municipality of Nigrita. It was proposed a new expanded water distribution network that covers the forementioned communities, and its replacement with 3rd generation polyethelene pipelines
2. the vacuum sewerage networks and the wastewater treatment plant of municipal district Flampouro

SOLUTION
The municipal districts Nigrita and Terpni had their own water distribution networks, but due to their age (40 years old) and construction material (pipelines made of asbestos and steel), could not ensure the adequacy and good quality of drinking water. The water intake for the municipal district of Nigrita is from an existing water tank, whereas for the municipal district of Terpni, from a water tower.

Furthermore, the community Flampouro, was served by septic tanks. The produced wastewater was discharged untreated in the broader region, resulting in the degradation of the natural environment and the quality of life for local residents.

The design of the project was pursuant to the Greek Presidential Decree 696/74. The design of the pipelines and the pumping stations was based on a 40-year horizon, while the selection of the electrical and mechanical equipment was based on a 20-year horizon. Specifically, the project included:

water distribution network for the communities of Nigrita (total length: 88.600m and pipeline diameters of 90mm) and Terpni (total length: 18.100m and pipeline diameters of 90mm)
water supply pipelines network for transporting drinking water with a total length of 1.190m and pipelines diameter of 160mm and 225mm
vacuum sewerage network for the community of Flampouro (total length of network: 19.890m and pipeline diameters of 90mm and 250mm) with the appropriate vacuum pumping station.
exterior force main pipeline with a total length of 2.000m and pipeline diameter of 125mm.
WWTP that uses, the method of rotating biological contactors; the WWTP land occupies an area of 0.6 hectares and is located 1,5km southeast of Flampouros; the treat effluent wastewater is discharged into Nigritas river

BENEFIT
The design of the forementioned works, solved the problem of drinking water management for the communities Nigrita and Terpni, and the problem of wastewater management of the community Flampouros.
