Project Summary

Drinking Water-Irrigation
FINAL STUDY OF WATER INTAKE AND FORCE MAIN PIPELINES FOR IRRIGATION FROM CANAL 5K, SERRES PREFECTURE
Client: Municipality of Visaltia
Year: 2005
Budget: 341.070€

ΒισταλίαISSUE
The purpose of the project was the final design of the water intake and irrigation pipelines in the region upstream of the Central Irrigation Canal (CIC) 5K in the municipality of Visaltia, which occupies a total area of 1400 hectares.

SOLUTION
The reported region was insufficiently irrigated by the CIC 5K resulting in low crop yields.

The irrigated area upstream of the Canal 5K is not integrated, but fragmented in the limits of the various municipal districts. Therefore the total irrigated area was divided into smaller segments, and the irrigation demand was satisfied by seven (7) main pressure pipelines with a total length of 11.500m, and seven (7) pumping stations. Each pumping station consists of:
Three (3) identical submersible pumps were installed, (one served as a backup) within each pumping station.

A total of twenty-eight (28) pressure pipelines were installed, with a total length of 19.400m and pipeline diameters from 75mm to 225mm.

BENEFIT
The design of the forementioned works, solved the irrigation problem in the region upstream of the CIC 5K in the municipality of Visaltia.
