ISSUE Proposed Site “Paliolivada”
The purpose of the project was the development of a rational solid waste management system for the Municipality of N. Zichni in order to protect the environment and the public health, and particularly included:
the identification of sites in the broader region of Municipality of N. Zichni, that are initially suitable for the construction of a sanitary landfill
the evaluation and ranking of the obtained sites in order to finally propose the most appropriate location
SOLUTION
The project included:
- recording of the environment of the broader region
- presentation and tentative evaluation of the four sites chosen as suitable for waste disposal. These sites were:
- Position “Paleochari” located between Communities of Dimitra, Tholos and Myrrini, covering an area of 10 hectares
- Position “Kserovrysi”, located between Communities of Rodolivos, Draviskos, and Mikro Souli, covering an area of 10 hectares
- Position “Paleolivada” (selected location), located 3km east of Community of Dimitra, covering an area of 10 hectares
- Position “Rodies”, located between Communities of Lefkothea, Affisti and Messorachi, covering an area of 10 hectares
- detailed presentation of the criteria taken into account for the comparative evaluation of the selected sites
- description of the proposed landfill method and the supporting projects
- presentation of financial and pricing policy issues as well as management bodies
- presentation of financial data of the investment and the operating costs of the projects
- implementation schedule of Management Plan of Municipality of N.Zichni and adjacent Municipalities
BENEFIT
The design of the project essentially solved the problem of solid waste management for the Municipality of N. Zichni.
