The purpose of the project was the Environmental Permit for the expansion of the sanitary landfill of Municipality of Lamia that included a new refuse cell, bed lining works, minimization and treatment of the produced leachate and biogas and support facilities (e.g. waste water treatment plant, flood protection, stormwater tank, fencing, access roads, etc)

SOLUTION
The construction site is a complementary area to the existing solid waste disposal site.

The new refuse cell was designed to accept municipal solid waste from the Municipalities of Lamia, Pelasgia, Echinaies, Stylida, Leianokladi, Ypati, Gorgopotamos, Molos and the Community of Pavliani for 5 additional years. The total annual served population is 99.500 residents.

The project identified all the exact deposit locations. In addition, the existing natural and human environmental condition was investigated. Further, information on the feasibility of the project was given, followed by a detailed technical description of the project.

Finally, the extent and magnitude of the environmental impact from the construction and operation of the project as well as the mitigation of the environmental impacts were described and alternative solutions were examined.

BENEFIT
The project was submitted to the responsible environmental public authority for the approval of the Environmental Permit.
