Client: AEGEK SA
Year: 2003

ISSUE

The purpose of the project was the modification of Environmental Terms for the construction of the road section Neo Kostarazi – Argos Orestiko (45.1.4) of the Egnatia Odos’s vertical road axis Siatista – Kristalopigi. Specifically it is stated that in the section from Station 2+284  to Station 2+729, a replacement of the viaduct T4 with embankments was scheduled, in order for the bridge to be more accurately integrated in the landscape, as defined in the Approval of Environmental Terms of the project, by the environmental term 7.6 in the Joint Ministerial Decision (JMD) with number 109643/18.10.2001.

SOLUTION Π.ΠΕΡΙΒ/ΝΤΟΣ

According to the primary design at the initial location, a construction of a viaduct has been proposed (one for each branch of the artery) for the passing of the valley of stream “Gkioli”. The viaduct was designed to be 465m long and with a height that fluctuates between 8 and 15 meters. The body of the bridge consisted of fifteen (15) openings of 31m each. The cross-section of every sector with an overall width of 13m consisted of five prefabricated girders forming a double T with a height of 1.74m in a distance of 2.70m axially.

The modified project includes the construction of a part of a viaduct with a length of 310m and its replacement with reinforced embankment with a maximum height of 12.5m.

According to the new design, the viaduct is formed with eight openings of 31m each, and with two openings of 30.45m each. Among the girders, prefabricated plates of 10cm thickness were designed, and on top of them additional cast on the spot is being layered with 16cm thickness, resulting to the formation of a deck slab with a thickness of 26cm and a total height of 2m.

The other elements of the bridge remain as they were originally designed.

The proposed shorter bridge, given the fact that the embankment is planted on slopes and on its base so as for the artery to remain hidden, it is preferable for the specific environment as the project integrates much more smoothly in the landscape.

In the current project, all the locations of the works were identified and an analysis of the current situation took place, where the natural and human environment condition was investigated. At the same time, information about the feasibility of the works has been given, along with a detailed technical description of them.

Finally, the extent and size of the caused denaturation of the environment was described from the construction and operation of works along with the encounter of environmental impacts.

BENEFIT

The project was submitted to the proper department for the modification of the Environmental Terms. This approach made more thorough the integration of the viaduct in the surrounding landscape.
