EVALUATION OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS OF THE 2nd TERRITORIAL DISTRICT OF PREFECTURE OF SERRES

ISSUE

The purpose of the study was the evaluation of the environmental problems of the communities Agistro, Axladoxori, Vamvakofito, Vironeia, Kamaroto, Kapnofito, Neo Petritsi, Promaxonas, Strimonoxori, Xaropo and Xortero which constitute the 2nd territorial district of Prefecture of Serres.

SOLUTION

Initially, the study presented the existing condition of the environment in the broader area of the aforementioned communities.

Then, an evaluation and assessment of the environmental and infrastructure problems is performed (solid and wastewater management issues etc.); areas of natural beauty and recreational development are mentioned; areas with cultural interest which could be reclaimed and contribute to the aesthetic upgrade of the area are also presented in this study.

Finally, mitigating actions were proposed (works or studies) which could contribute to the resolution of the environmental problems. In addition, an evaluation of the cost of the proposed works or studies was made including an investigation of possibilities for funding.

BENEFIT

The study served as a tool for the evaluation of the environmental problems in the communities which belong in the 2nd territorial district of Prefecture of Serres.
