The purpose of the study was the environmental impact assessment and the approval of the environmental terms for the construction of a motor racing track (formula 3) in Municipality of Serres.

SOLUTIONΠ.ΠΕΡΙΒ/ΝΤΟΣ
The aim of the Municipality of Serres and the organizers of motor races are the national and worldwide promotion and marketing of the motor racing track in Serres.

The track has a total length of 3180m and capacity of 30 racing cars; it is also available for motorcycle races (capacity of 32 motorcycles).

The width of the track is 15m at the starting line, and 12m for the rest of the track. The starting line is 662m. The total number of curves is 16 (nine (9) right turns and seven (7) left turns).

The track is constructed with a layer of sand and gravel and a layer of asphalt. Inside the track, the PITS are installed (for parking and repair of the racing cars) occupying an area of 5 hectares and connecting through a tunnel to the outside space of the track (entrance and exit the racing cars).

The motor racing track included two tiers with a capacity of 5000 spectators, double aerial pedestrian overpass and parking lot with a capacity of 3000 cars.

In addition, the motor racing track included the construction of a 3-floor building with a total surface area of 1,5 hectares for housing all the necessary facilities.

In the current study, the exact locations for the construction of the works were identified and the existing condition of the natural and human environment was examined. Additionally, the feasibility of the works was demonstrated and a technical description of the works was performed.

Finally, the environmental impact from the construction and operation of the works was described and the mitigating actions during the construction and operation phases were provided.

BENEFIT
The studies were submitted to the environmental public authorities for environmental licensing of the project and contributed to its implementation.
