ISSUE

The purpose of the study was the environmental impact assessment study for the approval of the environmental terms for the mild architectural intervention works in the community of Kehros, Prefecture of Rodopi.

SOLUTION

View of the intervention works Π.ΠΕΡΙΒ/ΝΤΟΣ
The construction of the proposed interventions includes materials which are environmentally friendly and cause the least impacts to the environment.

The intervention works take place within the community and extend in an area approximately 1.500m north. The interventions include the following works:

• Construction of a Natural History Museum, with a surface area of 240m2, located north from the former mayor’s building of Kehros at distance of 200m. The new building has one floor and a basement and includes exhibition room, administrative offices and auxiliary facilities (WC, warehouses). The surroundings of the building will include plantings and trees, gardens with various species of plants, benches, wooden fence around the area, lighting poles, pathways covered from stone and shistolith. For the visitor’s convenience, a pavilion will be placed with shade shelters and a wooden pergola.
• Development of appropriate recreation facilities, view points with a kiosk, benches, stone fountain and pathways which allow the access of the visitors to the intervention areas. Throughout the project, lighting poles were installed and wooden litter bins were placed in order to keep the area clean.

In the current study, the exact location for the construction of the works was identified and the existing condition of the natural and human environment was examined. Additionally, the feasibility of the works was demonstrated and a technical description of the works was performed.

Finally, the environmental impact from the construction and operation of the works was described and the mitigating actions during the construction and operation phases were provided.

BENEFIT

The study was submitted to the environmental public authority for environmental licensing and contributed to the development and upgrade of Kehros Community in Prefecture of Rodopi.
