Client: Prefecture of Rodopi and Evros-Technical Services Department
Year: 1997

ISSUE
The purpose of the study was the environmental impact assessment study for the approval of the environmental terms for the construction of restoration, enhancement and touristic development works at the coast line of Imeros, Rodopi Prefecture and more specifically, the mild intervention woks for the improvement and upgrade of the existing campsite. The campsite is located 2km south from the community of Imeros within an artificial pine park.

SOLUTION                                                         View of the intervention works at Imeros coastlineΠ.ΠΕΡΙΒ/ΝΤΟΣ
During the summer the coastline of Imeros is overcrowded by swimmers and tourists.

The restoration and enhancement of the coastline is necessary for the development of the appropriate infrastructure services.

The existing infrastructure works of the campsite, implemented by the community of Imeros, did not comply with the technical specifications of a modern camping facility. The facility requires improvement and upgrade to satisfy aesthetic and service needs.

The existing infrastructure works in the campsite included water fountains, tables and chairs, fencing etc. Moreover, at the coastline of Imeros, the community operates a touristic pavilion which serves the campers and can be integrated into the overall infrastructure touristic services so that a construction of a cafeteria will not be necessary.

The restoration and development works are generally mild interventions which are wooden constructions and include the upgrade of the areas for the placement of tents and trailers and the construction of playgrounds, entrance and security of the campsite etc.

The construction of the proposed works included materials which are environmentally friendly and cause the least possible impacts to the environment.

In the current study, the exact location for the construction of the works was identified and the existing condition of the natural and human environment was examined. Additionally, the feasibility of the works was demonstrated and a technical description of the works was performed.

Finally, the environmental impact from the construction and operation of the works was described and the mitigating actions during the construction and operation phases were provided.

BENEFIT
The study was submitted to the environmental public authority for environmental licensing and contributed to the restoration, enhancement and touristic development of the coastline of Imeros, at Rodopi Prefecture.
