ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT STUDY FOR THE PROJECT: "ENHANCEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE MOUNTAINOUS COMMUNITY OF ORGANI, RODOPI PREFECTURE"

ISSUE
The purpose of the study was the environmental impact assessment for approval of environmental terms for the construction of mild architectural intervention works in the community of Organi at Rodopi prefecture.

The construction of the proposed interventions includes materials which are environmentally friendly and cause the least impacts to the environment. The intervention works are the following:

• Construction of a conference center (with a surface area of 240m2) on a municipal land with an area of half hectare which is located in the center of the community across the existing mayor’s building. The building includes reception area with information stand, one office, 2 WC (men and women), storage area, dining room and a conference room with capacity of 40 people.
• Construction of mild architectural interventions which develop on the hill covered with pine trees, northeast of the community, which include the construction of a view point with appropriate shade shelters and benches and opening of a pathway which allows access in the area from the south side of the hill.
• Restoration of traditional buildings in the broader area including the community of Organi for accommodating the visitors and users of the conference center.

In the current study, the exact location for the construction of the works was identified and the existing condition of the natural and human environment was examined. Additionally, the feasibility of the works was demonstrated and a technical description of the works was performed.

Finally, the environmental impact from the construction and operation of the works was described and the mitigating actions during the construction and operation phases were provided.

BENEFIT
The study was submitted to the environmental authority for environmental licensing of the proposed works and contributed to the development and enhancement of the community Organi of Rodopi prefecture.
